Perfect as always5

As much as I wished Apple did more changes in the new models of Macbook pro still this one is perfect in many ways: it has great design high performance outstanding display. Still it has a few minor imperfections: it heats a lot. I use it mainly at home and almost always it stands on the table but if I actually put it somewhere close to skin it just burns intolerably so it's hard to call this a LAPtop :) the the curves near the trackpad where the niche for opening is (don't know how this part is called))) well for some reason they are made so sharp that they sometimes leave marked on my hands while using trackpad. Other than these remarks it's absolutely great.Apple MacBook Pro MC373LL/A 15.4-Inch LaptopMore detail ...

Video Review: MacBook - More than enough for the fun stuff4

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1UZDPX5TFLZ8G

I made this video to hopefully add a little more life to the product.

Snow Leopard adds a lot more than I thought.

This is a great computer if you want to play with pics surf the web mess with your music collection.

This is not the Mac if you want serious processing power of lots of inputs to create a home network.

Look to a MacBook Pro or iMac for that.

I would have given it 5 stars if it had more inputs.

This is a pricy computer already now I have to spend more to get adaptors.

I wish it was still available in black or you could opt for the non-glaze display.

I hope you enjoy the video I had fun making it.More detail ...

Love the matte screen option. Great computer. Time will tell if its worth the $$5

After having a 3 year-old Dell die on me (to be fair it was put through multiple trips to and from school in my bag sometimes while it was still on) and a Toshiba Satellite fail after a year I was tired of paying bargain prices and receiving a frustrating experience to go with it.

My girlfriend had talked about buying a Mac and I always balked at them as being too expensive. Well most of the main problems with my old laptops were hardware/compatability/driver issues. Knowing that Apple makes the hardware and develops the software for their computers made me think they would be able to integrate the two aspect better PC's I have used. I still have nightmarew about all the drivers I had to hunt down when I downgraded my Toshiba from Windows Vista to XP.

I had actually purchased a 13" Macbook Pro with a glossy screen from Amazon a few days before Apple did their big upgrade in April 2010. It was a beautiful looking machine and was easy to use after I became accustomed to the differences from a PC ie; What is the "Finder"? However the 13" screen was a little small for me. I do some photography work and I watch movies on it as well so I decided the 15" Macbook Pro would be the way to go. Once they did their upgrade for all their machines I decided to buy directly from Apple.

I debated long and hard on the glossy vs. matte option. Going with the high-res screen (1680 X 1050 as opposed to standard 1440 X 900) was a no-brainer. After doing some online research I also chose the matte option (as opposed to the default glossy screen). I had never actually seen a matte screen as the local Best-Buy didn't have one in stock. I was a little nervous on my decision but I called Apple tech support and easily arranged for a return on my not-yet-arrived 15" Macbook Pro should I want one with a glossy screen instead. The person I spoke with even arranged for return shipping labels paid for by Apple! I didn't upgrade the harddrive or RAM because I can do those myself or have them done later for a lot cheaper than Apple's pricing.

The new 15" w/ the matte screen came and I opened up some high-res You-tube videos and compared it side-by-side to the glossy. This was the middle of the day and the lone window in our living room was creating all sorts of reflections on the glossy screen while the matte was unphased. Sure the blacks on the glossy were a deeper and the colors might have "popped" a little more but knowing I would be using my laptop in a room lit by daylight or with a bright light the henious reflections on the glossy screen definitely made it a no-go for me. This was a window that was in front of the computer and wasn't even directly shining on the screen. I was really happy I decided to go matte.

That being said I have loaded up Photoshop CS5 and it runs great. Way faster than my old laptop. I appreciate a lot of the little touches that Apple puts into their products that are becoming more and more noticable every day I use it. (Such as their search feature is always available with 1 click from the desktop) I plan to buy an Applecare plan towards the end of my one-year warranty period to make sure this lasts me at least 3 years. Hopefully I might be able to keep this for 4 or 5 years.

Overall if you have the $$ I highly recommend this product.

Pros-

- Unibody design is super-sturdy and slim.

- Love the matte screen

- The high resolution upgrade helps with multi-tasking programming photo-editing web-browing ect..

- Super-fast w/Photoshop

- Good side-to-side viewing angle (better than the screen on the Windows-based laptops I have used)

- Keyboard is very pleasant to use

- Speakers are adequate

- Touchpad is awesome! Large and easy to use with 2 3 and 4 finger controls not found anywhere else

but on a Mac. I rarely use a mouse anymore which works well for using it on my lap.

- Quick boot up time. Opening and closing the lid for "sleep mode" waiting time is basically zero.

- Good battery life

Cons

- Expensive (duh)

- Can get hot on the underneath towards the back where the processor is located.

- Up and down viewing angle not so good (this is common w/laptops though)

- Some software not available for Mac

- USB 2.0 (instead of newer 3.0)

- Glowing Apple logo on the back of the screen is a bit of advertising I could do without.

- Sharp Edges on front (can apparently be filed down but I am wary about doing this)

- No Blu-Ray drive

Update:

Maybe it is just me but my Apple seems to have more issues with Flash and streaming internet content than I have ever had with a PC. I know Apple is at war with Adobe and has gone to great lengths to disparage the Flash format. They do not seem to have worked too hard to ensure that Flash content works flawlessly with their machines. Streaming videos will stop or fail to load alltogether. This doesn't happen often but with a PC I never had any issues like this at all.

MBP Good!4

The Macbook Pro has just been updated on April 13th 2010. There are some upgrades and a few changes between this year and last years model detailed below.

UPGRADES

1) The MBP 13 now has 4 gb of ram standard. This allows you to multi-task easily without any issues ( last years model had only 2gb of ram which was inadequate) Now there's no need to spend more money upgrading your ram UNLESS you're really into heavy duty multimedia work

2) It also features the Nvidia GeForce 320M integrated graphics processor with 48 processing cores. This is an improvement compared to the Geforce 9400M graphics chip in last years model and will help in graphics and content creation.

3) The battery lasts longer - now for 9 to 10 hours of use as advertised by Apple (compared to 7 to 8 hours on last years model) Your mileage may vary but it allows you to be mobile for up to 6 hours - depending on what task you're using the computer for. It's an inbuilt battery so once it's exhausted it's back to the Apple store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for replacement. However Apple states that the battery will hold 80% of it's charge for up to a 1000 charges which means approximately 3 to 4 years of daily use. So it should be a while before you have to go in for that battery replacement.

4) The included hard drive is 250 gb (160gb in last years model).

5) Mini display port now supports video AND sound with a compatible Mini-DP to HDMI adapter (last years model only supported video)

STANDARD FEATURES - from last years 13 inch model (minor changes noted in brackets) are

An Aluminum unibody

Core 2 Duo Processor (2.4 ghz - up from 2.26ghz )

1280 x 800 resolution Glossy LED backlit screen

iSight camera

8x slot-loading SuperDrive dvd burner

Large glass multi-touch trackpad ( Intertial scrolling is now enabled )

Backlit keyboard with comfortable chiclet keys

Magsafe power adapter (with redesigned tip to reduce stress on the cable)

1 Firewire 800 port

2 USB 2.0 ports

SD Card slot

Wi-Fi - 802.11n specification; 802.11a/b/g compatible Bluetooth 2.1 and Gigabit Ethernet -10/100/1000.

Software included is OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and the iLife 09 suite of content creation tools. A 1 year warranty on parts and 90 day telephone technical support is standard.

The lack of the latest Intel Core i5 or i3 processors processors in this machine is disappointing to some extent ( Anybody paying a premium price for a product would expect new rather than "old" processors to be part of the configuration ) but I'd still recommended the MBP 13 to people looking to buy the lightest and most portable Macbook Pro as well as a capable machine in it's own right. Demanding applications like Skype Photoshop Lightroom iMovie run smoothly.

I would also consider purchasing applecare - AppleCare Protection Plan MC258LL/A - For Portable Apple Computers 13.3 Inches and Below along with the notebook. What most consumers don't know is that is that if you don't have Applecare and a product malfunction occurs after the first year Apple's prices for repair/ replacement parts are extremely high. Another warranty extension option is Squaretrade (which also includes damage protection). It's better to pay once for Applecare or Squaretrade (whatever you prefer) and be covered for 2 more years after the first year is up than pay exorbitant repair/replacement fees if a part malfunctions.

For those who are confused about whether they should purchase the $1199 MBP 13 or the $1499 MBP 13 - the only difference between this model and the higher priced model is processor speed and hard drive space - the $1199 MBP 13 has a 2.4 ghz processor and 250 gb hard drive and the $1499 MBP 13 has a 2.66ghz processor and 320 gb hard drive. Whether a 266 mhz (10% difference) and 70 gb more of hard drive space is worth 300 dollars more is your call. (Although you can purchase a 500 gb notebook hard drive for approximately $80 and install it yourself. Instructions are in the MBP 13 manual and you'll need a Philips #00 screwdriver. Installation videos are also available online)

Hope this helps!More detail ...
